Game Ideas

No objects, no paper, no app. Just people talking. Kept here so the list survives past whichever night I thought of it.

Celebrity Heads
Everyone comes up with a well-known name in their head for the person next to them and just tells them out loud, so every player knows everyone else's name except their own. Take turns asking yes/no questions to work out who you are. Played this one recently, still holds up, and needs nothing but the group. Digital version →
Mafia / Werewolf
Everyone closes their eyes, a narrator taps a couple of players awake to be the Mafia, and they open their eyes to silently identify each other. Then the whole group debates by day to vote someone out, and the Mafia quietly names someone to remove each night. Needs six or more people and a narrator willing to run it.
Two Truths and a Lie
Each player states three things about themselves, two true and one invented, and the group votes on which is the lie. Zero setup, good icebreaker for a group that doesn't know each other well.
Never Have I Ever
Go around saying something you've never done; anyone who has done it puts a finger down. Escalates fast once people start fishing for specific answers.
Contact
One player thinks of a secret word and gives its first letter. Others try to guess the word by giving a clue for a word that starts with the same letters revealed so far; if the thinker figures out a guesser's word before someone else shouts "contact," the guess is blocked. Fast and entirely verbal. Digital version →
20 Questions
One player thinks of a person, place, or thing, and the rest of the group asks up to twenty yes/no questions to narrow it down before guessing. Scales to any group size, over as soon as someone gets it.
The Alphabet Game
Pick a category, like movies or foods, and go around the circle naming one thing in it starting with A, then B, then C. Hesitate too long or repeat something and you're out. Endlessly reusable since the category changes the whole game.
Would You Rather
Take turns posing two options, both slightly terrible or both slightly great, and everyone has to pick a side and defend it. No prep beyond the question in your head.
Fortunately, Unfortunately
Build a story one sentence at a time, alternating "fortunately" and "unfortunately" between players, so every good turn immediately gets undone by the next person. Gets sillier the longer it runs.
Ninja
Everyone stands in a circle in a starting pose, and on a count takes one exaggerated move trying to strike another player's hand while dodging everyone else. Hit hands are out, last one standing wins. Physical, loud, no equipment.
